Academy Course Levels

The Academy is divided into three age groups by traditional school grade levels. Students should select the appropriate course by referring to the following guide:

Senior Level
(students entering grades 10, 11 and 12)

Junior Level
(students entering grades 7, 8 and 9)

Elementary Level
(students entering grades 4, 5 and 6)

Students place into their appropriate level and select one level-appropriate course that meets their specific interest. All junior and senior level courses include a drawing either as a separate studio or integrated into the curriculum.

Exhibition of Student Work

Join us for an open-studio exhibition of Parsons Pre-College Academy student work on Friday, August 15 at 2:30pm in 2 West 13th Street.

Prospective students, parents, teachers, and friends are invited to attend this exhibition.

Upcoming Free and Special Events

Throughout the year, Parsons Pre-College Academy offers a series of free and special events that highlight innovative design ideas. These events are open to elementary, junior, and senior level students interested in learning more about design. Events are publicized by email. If you would like to be added to the email list, kindly send your contact information to academy@newschool.edu

College Credit

Parsons Pre-College Academy is a non-credit program.

Housing

Parsons Pre-College Academy is a non-residential program.

Facilities

All classes meet at our Greenwich Village campus, 2 West 13th Street and 55 West 13th Street.

Student Activities

Daily events ranging from music and henna painting to innovative design presentations and portfolio reviews will take place in the Student Development Center each day from noon to 1pm.

Meals

Most students bring their lunch and eat in the Student Design Center where vending machines with drinks and snacks are available. The lunch hour is supervised by program staff. In subsequent registration materials, parents will be asked whether or not their child is required to attend the supervised lunch.

Supplies

Additional registration materials and supply lists will be sent out to students by e-mail. Tuition does not include supplies which are estimated at $150-$200. Supplies for some courses such as Painting will cost more.

Scholarships

Parsons maintains multiple long- and short-term scholarship programs for New York City public school students. Through scholarships and free events, we strive to make the physical and human resources of Parsons accessible to a diverse student body. For more information on the Parsons Scholars Program.

Tuition and Fees

During Summer 2009, all junior and senior level Parsons Academy courses cost $940. Elementary level and parent courses cost $470 per course.

Cancellations and Refunds

All cancellations must be made in writing and received before the indicated dates below. Mail cancellations to the Parson SPACE, 66 Fifth Avenue, Room 200, New York, NY 10011 or academy@newschool.edu.

Prior to June 1, full refund of tuition payments.
Prior to July 1, refund of tuition less 20% penalty.
After July 1, no tuition refunds.

Note: These are firm deadlines and no exceptions to this policy will be granted. Should a course be canceled due to low enrollment, a full refund will be issued.
