Session I: May 22-June 16
Session II: June 26-July 21
Session I: College/Adult PNNY 0213 Section A
Session II: College/Adult & Pre-College PNNY 0213 Section B
Explore New York City through sound, digital video, images, and the web.
Create an online portfolio of samples, films, images, and information maps
representing the urban experience in innovative ways. Map the streets by
sampling sound and re-mixing, document neighborhoods with video, and post the
results on a personal, evolving website using blogs. Students will spend half
the course in the lab focused on digital skills, design concepts, and critiques in
areas such as time, cinematography, information mapping, and sound design. The other
half of the course will be on-site in the city looking at neighborhoods as a dynamic,
evolving spaces represented through sound, vision, and time-based media. No previous
digital design experience is necessary, although experienced students will have an
opportunity to explore advanced concepts in interactivity. Students can use their
own video camera or make use of one of Parsons video cameras.
