Parsons Awarded Kölner Design Preis International

Date: 10/26/2009
Author: Public Relations

Recent alumnus Douglas Segulja has been awarded first place in the Kölner Design Preis International (Cologne Design Award International). Segulja graduated from The School of Constructed Environments at Parsons in 2009 with a master’s degree in Architecture.

The Kölner Design Preis International is an award given to students of non-European partner universities based on the strength of their thesis projects. Segulja’s thesis project was the design of a polytechnic high school focusing on training students for jobs as train engineers and mechanics. Students would be educated for positions that focus on train maintenance and engineering. This training would require the use of traditional classrooms as well as specialized studio spaces for hands-on training.

Last year, the first-place prize was awarded to alumna Tracy Gromek who was a 2008 graduate of the School of Art, Media and Technology where she earned her master’s degree in Design Technology.

The Kölner Design Preis International is supported by a Cologne and Atlanta-based philanthropist and a Cologne-based brewery Fruh (Cölner Hofbräu Fruh KG). For more information visit their website.
