Description:

Art & Design Studies is the core of the intellectual study of design and art at Parsons. Students rise to meet the challenges of the 21st-century design and art practices, through critical reasoning, creative thinking, and problem solving. The Art & Design Studies program situates studio work intellectually. Courses in history, theory and criticism, and design studies develop students' skills in critical thinking, writing, research, and contextual studies. Students also choose liberal arts courses from a university-wide selection of electives. Parsons, in conjunction with Eugene Lang College, offers a five-year BA/BFA dual degree that enables students to combine art & design studies and liberal arts with a studio major. Students carry with them a greater understanding of the conception, history, and theory of the artificial or designed world.
