Fashion Studies Certificate
Designed to provide foundation in construction and graphic skills needed to begin a career in fashion. The basic core class plus five electives include topics on form, color, the purpose of sewing, pattern drafting, fabric selection, model drawing, design sketching, history and trends. The standard completion time is one year. The certificate requires the completion of between 8 - 10 courses.

Fashion Design Basic Core
This basic intensive course is designed to provide students with a foundation in both the construction and graphic skills/strategies necessary to begin a design career in fashion. The course is intended for those who wish to engage in all the elements of the design process from sketch to finish.
Construction Techniques I
Learn basic sewing, patternmaking and draping techniques. Modify commercial patterns and learn basic principles of design. Cover machine and hand sewing; cutting and zipper application; slopers, skirts, bodices, collars, sleeves and three-dimensional muslin interpretation. Students may elect to take this course along with Design Sketching and Color Theory in place of the Fashion Design Basic Core.
Color Theory
Discover the dynamic interaction of color and its implications for designers and artists. Study ideas of space and how color solves spatial problems. Look at color harmony, how color interacts, as well as qualities and possible combinations. Students may elect to take this course along with Design Sketching and Draping in place of the Fashion Design Basic Core.
Fashion History Elective
Select from a variety of fashion history courses, including: Fashion History: Antiquity through Renaissance, or Fashion History: Renaissance through the present, Costume Design and History, and
Fashion Trends.
Three Elective Courses
Elective coursework is available covering a variety of fashion topics.
